French as a new Life Skill
A statement for your career
Among the many skills available to forward a career, none quite makes a statement as “new language”. After all, if it was so easy, all our celebrity industry leaders would know a whole collection of them, whether they own Amazon, Microsoft, or Tesla.
Come to think of it, even our diplomats and politicians rarely venture outside of English. Perhaps it says something as to how much of an achievement it is?
OK… easier said than done. How long is French going to take me? Perhaps I’ll rather do a 2-month certificate in online content management? Seems somewhat easier…
This alternative is perfectly understandable. After all, what is a new language? How does one even learn one? The last time you did this you were probably still in school and in most cases that didn’t go too well…
If you are among the few who are committed to picking up French as a life skill, there are things to understand before you start. You will need to understand the plan and the outcome and decide if you trust it.
Because languages aren’t quite as quantifiable as sales targets or growth projections, it can be harder to put in an actionable plan. But we’ll try out best. Here goes.
Who are we?
20-minute classes
Let's make an actionable plan!
How will it happen?
Learning French will happen by you logging into this website and doing the exercises. The more exercises you do, the more skills you pick up. We meet up as soon you feel that you’ve learned something new. We assess your progress together.
What's the risk?
The way we do it, French is both incredibly achievable and yet daunting. The only real risk is to give up. We’ve made it so that French is structured and achievable by anyone who can follow a plan. You just go from worksheet to worksheet.
What will I get here?
If you learn everything we show you, the outcome will be a very good understanding of the most important points of French: the key verbs, the pronunciation…all the tools that you will need to continue evolving as an independent user of French.
Is it hard?
It really depends on personality and the degree of self-discipline of each person. I would swear under oath in the Supreme Court that anyone can learn French in under a year with our method. All you need to do is sit down with a pencil and do the exercises.
What's the timeline?
The last thing you want is to say “I am learning French” without quite knowing where you are going. The way we do it, we can tell you the exact number of skills you will need. Once you know them all, you have hit the target.
How good will I get?
Let’s be honest here: we specialize in putting solid quantifiable tools at your disposal. For example, the important verbs. But no one can guarantee how quickly you will become a comfortable speaker of French.
Will I speak French?
See preceding point. Yes, you will speak French with us during the live meetups but some things cannot be guaranteed: if you learn the French word for “vegetable”, we cannot guarantee that you pull this word out from your memory at the drop of a hat
Will I understand?
Understanding spoken French is the act of turning sound waves into information. A beginner finds it difficult to separate the words they hear. Only practice develops your ear for perfect understanding. This is what takes the longest.
What's the outline?
There are priorites among French words. We start with those. we straighten your pronunciation. We focus o the “formulas” that support the rest of the language. We know the important vocabulary. We focus on the tools that teach the logic of French.
What level will I reach?
You will achieve functional French that allows you to communicate correctly, albeit slowly in the beginning. You will understand where to look for answers because you will have learned in a way that aims to make you independent and sell-reliant.
What's the commitment?
Some people find it hard to commit to things that take discipline,. Others don”t and that’s the big divider. French is within the reach of your hand because you “just” have to do it. French is both incredibly accessible and not. It depends on you.
How fast will it go?
We mentioned a year or less. This is a true in the sense that it is humanly achievable and doesn’t take unreasonable hard work. But all of this is subjective. To some learners, remembering 4 words is a head-splitting task.
Let's paraphrase this in easy English
We’ve been teaching French since 2018 and during this time we’ve seen all types of learners. Picking up French as a life skill is extremely achievable but it takes a structured approach. Do you know what is the number 1 cause for not knowing something? I’ll tell you: the number one cause for not knowing something it to simply not have learned it.
Think about this. A student will show up at a class and say “Oh dang. How does this verb work in the past tense again?”
And because we’re very nice we give the answer. And the student says “Ah yes” Now I know.” But the fact is, they don’t know and they will make that same mistake again next week.
The student will continue not knowing until they actually decide to memorize it. And how will they do this? By sitting down and doing an exercise and writing the answer.
People always think that if they “speak French”, things will somehow fall into place and solidify in their memory. As if speaking was the glue that held everything together.
But this is not true. And we have never seen it work. Not once since 2018.
In our language school, we propose a stuctured plan. If you don’t know words that relate to the beach, just go and learn them. We have a video that lists 40 words about the beach. If you don’t know how to name things in the bathroom, do the same. We have a video that covers that, too.
We’re so much based on common sense that we appear different from the norm. A lot of schools rather place the emphasis on stereotypes like the Eiffel tower or other French myths. It’s a wonder they are even in business because this way, it would take years to learn anything.
So to summarize it all, if you are after French as a life skill yes you can certainly do that here. Just follow our guidance and together we will chip away at the skills to provide you with a solid understanding of French.
It will be a stimulating experience and fun, too. The more you learn, the more fun it will get.
And by the way, just in case you thought we came up with this plan out of nowhere we didn’t. We actually looked at what our most successful students had done and shared their method with every one else. That’s why we know it works!
