The Best Online French Course for Adult Learners in 2025?
Which is the Best Online French Course for Adult Learners in 2025?
My name is Chris and I run OuiCommunicate, a French school that I started in 2018.
On this page, I will state my case and present my arguments as to why OuiCommunicate might be close second, if not THE BEST French course overall.
Let’s apply a series of logical criteria to find out the answer!

What went wrong the first time?
Reason 1: You fell victim to Page 1 of Google paid ads results and didn’t learn much.
It’s not your fault, but the game is rigged. All the top results on Google are paid for. In language learning, we often confuse reputation with quality. Yes, we’ve all heard of Duolingo and others, but the same way that Mc Donalds doesn’t make the best food neither do any of the first results teach the best language course.
Reason 2: You used an app or language school that wasn’t specialized.
Think of it this way: does Rolls-Royce also make lawnmowers? Do they try to branch out in different markets and sell a bit of everything? Any language-learning app or school that proposes a multitude of languages is immediately non-specialized. A manager loses too much quality control over language courses that they are not a master of themselves. They blindly trust that the tutor is doing a good job in the name of the school or app developper.
Reason 3: You went to a language school that employed tutors with precarious contracts.
Trust me: Even the best-known language school that is subsidized by the French State does this. They offer precarious part-time contracts to their dissatisfied tutors who find themselves stuck in these jobs that they use as a handy way to immigrate to a new country. Besides this, no language school offers 40 hours a week of full-time teaching to their tutors. They grab the hours where they can find them and you get a watered-down service that’s much worse than you probably think.
Reason 4: You tried to learn with a French teacher from France.
This is typical. Learners figure that a “real” French teacher from France will do a better job. And they think it too! Make no mistake: France is as social aquarium that is one of the most monolingual countries you will ever encounter. A French person does not grow up in a multicultural environment. Therefore, they can only think about French as a French person and perpetuate a teaching tradition that doesn’t work for you
Reason 5: You bought your French by the hour.
Language schools sell you French by the hour, which is akin to buying cucumbers by their length. Wrong unit of measurement. Language schools that never had a deep hard think about their own practices will do this without quite knowing why, even if it ends up costing much more as well as offering sub-par results for the student. OuiCommunicate changed this practice and will never go back! We sell skill, not time.
Reason 6: Your source of learning didn’t take your native language into account.
Bilingual is the ability to think as a native in 2 languages. This rare skill is used by top-level language teachers to make your learning easier. Anything else is a one-sided transfer of information from teacher to student. If they don’t know how it feels to be a native speaker of English, it won’t work remotely as well.
Reason 7: They never explained to you the process of learning.
The human mind is wired to be receptive to ease and shortcuts. We don’t like to trouble ourselves with obstacles and will rather go with “easy” even if we have full knowledge that it leads to nowhere. Your source of learning probably promised “Do this and the magic will happen” – either implicitly or by saying they were the next big thing. At OuiCommunicate, we know that there’s no such thing as a shortcut. We will take the necessary time to explain how learning works.
Reason 8: You overlooked the mental aspect of the game.
As any top achiever will tell us, the mental aspect is everything. We must battle our preconceptions and ideas which we carry with us in all we do. It is likely that you approached French with myths and ideas about the language and about learning. Your source of learning went along with it because doing otherwise would “complicate” their product. (or they simply weren’t aware) As a result, you approached French poorly and got in your own way and were never explained how learning French actually works.
Reason 9: You listened to the man in the pub.
The man in the pub knows all about language learning. You will find these people on Youtube, in podcasts and other social media. The field of language teaching is one that is unregulated. Anyone can become a “teacher” without the slightest formal knowledge. It is hard for the student to grasp how many light years of knowledge separate a graduate in Linguistics from a Youtube teacher. They will continue to waste your time with lesson plans that are full to the brim with clutter due to their own inability.
Reason 10: All the reasons combined.
Failure to learn French is usually a combination of all these reasons. You listened to expats’ opinions on Facebook forums, you used a flashy app, you believed in the promise of “easy”, you worked with a French teacher from France, you trusted a big name brand, you used page 1 of Google, you didn’t consider the true meaning learning (nor of “French”), and you took classes with contractor-teachers.
But there is good news !
Solution 1: learn with a teacher who also knows English as a native.
The best online course for French in 2025 starts with this crucial condition: your teacher MUST have 360 degree visibility into French and English. If they do not, you are in the strictest mathematical sense learning with a source that is only half as good as this one.
Solution 2: Be treated like royalty.
Simple advice, but can have massive consequences. Your teacher or school should be jumping for joy at every chance to teach you and they should be treating you as if you were nothing less that royalty.
Solution 3: Buy skill, not time.
The best online course for French in 2025 should be in the business of selling skill. If you leave your 60-minute French class with only minutes worth of knowledge, there is already a big issue. Most what you pay for is evaporating into thin air.
Solution 4: Size matters.
Anyone who’s worked for a medium-to-large company knows that the left hand often doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. When a language company grows, they are obliged to tighten the teaching procedure in order to standardize the brand. They tell teachers how and what to teach. This makes sense, but it also contradicts the fact that teaching requires elasticity and creativity. How can a big brand be “good” if it is the very thing they limit? The best at language teaching can only be small in size.
Solution 5: Specialize in your choice
In any industry, the leaders only specialize in one thing. Choose a language school that are the best at Spanish or the best at French. No manager in the world can have such mental faculties that they can keep their finger on the pulse for languages that they don’t master themselves. Play safe and specialize.
Solution 6: Humans first
Good business is getting much more for your money than you paid for. It is also a business in which humans come first. The best French course for French can be reached by phone and know you by name.
Solution 7: Buy expertise and academic credentials
Between a teacher who has a Masters in Linguistics and one who set up shop as a side gig, there is chasm of difference. They don’t even do the same profession. One is playing with Matchbox cars, the other sells you the Rolls Royce. University matters.
Solution 8: Combine it all and come out a winner
The best can’t be a one-trick pony. To claim the top spot in online French in 2025. your source of learning must be perfectly bilingual, have university credentials, be small in size, have passion, value your presence as royalty, be in the business of selling skill, offer much more value than you paid for, be specialized in their language, have freedom to innovate and create, be reachable by phone, know you by name, not use artificial intelligence, and do all they can each day of the week to keep getting better at what they do.
