How does it work?
There’s so much depth to this website, we think it’s easier to show a video than to try to lay it all out in pictures and in writing. This is why we deliver results: no more grey zones!
Why the Shetland Islands?
The Shetland Islands are described by most as “relatively isolated” and it can be a challenge to have access to services such as ours. Especially when compared to, say, New York.
We set up this web page with the express purpose of being found. Thanks to the marvels of the internet, there is no more need to be present in the same room or school. Wherever we choose to live, we may now access the highest levels of French classes.
But it doesn’t just come down to a question of location. Even if we lived in the Shetlands we wouldn’t try to open a French school because our way of teaching is best done online. We are purposely designed to be a distance learning school that encourages work a home and self-reliance.
Your teacher Chris is a qualified language teacher with a Master’s degree in linguistics and literature. He has a post-graduate degree in teaching as well as several TEFL certificates. He is a native speaker of both French and English. He knows Brirtish, French and American culture from the inside and knows the difficulties you are likely to face. The French course he has created on this website is specifically made for speakers of English.
Our way of teaching will best suit adults and young learners over 15. No French is necessary to start and no “talent for languages” is necessary either. Whether it is a lifelong project to learn French at a later age or to consolidate a current level, we can help you.Â
This website contains our French exercises and videos. Our students meet up for an assessment with their teacher, leave with recommendations for homework and show up next time ready to discuss their progress. To help you we also include online assistance in the form of emails you can send us if anything isn’t clear.
Speaking French will gradually be included in our Skype conversations as you progress. We are different from more traditional classes that consider that speaking is the tool with which we learn. At OuiCommunicate, we rely on targeted learning rather than volume. A 60 minute French class does not equal 60 minutes of learning when we leave the room!

About our French classes
Thanks to the Internet, there is no more need to be present in the same room to conduct a successful language class. There are actually many reasons why in-person classes are less effective, slower and quickly lead to becoming “hobby-classes”.Â
Probably not the best approach if you want to learn French with intent.
OuiCommunicate is a coursework-based language school. We have the French language available for you on our website in the form of worksheets, videos and quizzes.
You only pay for the 20-minute meetups with your teacher, in which we assess your understanding of specific parts of French.
Speaking French will gradually be integrated as you develop better tools. French will be taught to you as a speaker of English, with full understanding of your background.
As a result, you can expect to build strong foundations in French to become a confident speaker. You will have all the tools to grow and develop as an independent speaker of French.
