Our Frequently Asked Questions
When are the classes?
The classes are online and they are whenever you want to book one. Just go to the calendar and click on a time slot.
We offer slots from Monday to Friday and on Sunday.
When will I speak French?
If you are a complete beginner, there will be things to learn such as pronunciation, tenses and basic vocabulary.
Of course, you could start by speaking frst and learning later (many schools do this) but it will considerably slow down your process.
In our classes, speaking French will gradually be integrated in our classes as you acquire new tools. We don’t feel comfortable to offer “pretend speak” classes while knowing full well that it is much slower than the way we propose.
How often should I study?
Learning French is like anything else: one a week brings us “once a week results” and so forth.
To be safe, we recommend working on your French 2 to 3 times a week.
Will I learn colloquial French?
It is a regrettable influence of social media to have blown out of proportion the existence of “real” French VS “textbook” French.
The French expressions and sayings represent fractions of a decimal in comparison to the whole picture.
Don’t worry about it. these things are of no relevance.
Is French full of silent letters?
No. This is also a myth that was exacerbated by social media.
It is the English spelling that is chaotic. French has a much more predictable phonetic system and spelling system.
Will I be ready for France?
If you are leaving for France, it is preferable to give yourself some study time. Learning “phrases” or hoping it will occur in full immersion is a bad plan. Your best bet is to give yourself 6 months of study time to have an understanding of the key notions of French. We can direct you to the most important parts of the program before you leave.
Is it a pen and paper program?
Yes, our program contains the larger part of French that you would ever need. For each topic, there is a video player and a worksheet that you can print out on paper or read on your computer.
We believe in the power on writing for best retention. We are rather more on the traditional side of learning than the modern apps.
Is this FLE French?
Thankfully, it is not. FLE French is a teaching program designed by French teachers from France who explain the language according to what makes sense to them as native speakers.
The problem is that as a speaker of English, you are neither. This is why this type of teaching works so poorly on their students.
Do you deliver French certificates?
No, we do not. We have only one program to deliver all the French you will need. We don’t cut up French into levels either because we consider that everyone can learn “the” French.
The business of language certificates is one that is separate from our pursuit as linguists and teachers.
Who will be my teacher?
So far, we don’t employ freelancers to work for us.
Perhaps it will happen one day but until we find that teacher with a rare skill as a bilingual, it remains Chris.
What if I'm younger than 40?
It is true that we mention “40+ learners” but this should be seen as an estimate. If you are 30, you are welcome too!
We don’t teach children or teens for reasons of maturity.
