Hi, I'm Chris. Welcome to OuiCommunicate Translators.
We offer translations from French to English and from English to French.
We do translations on a cultural level that only a bilingual can.
Why choose us?
With OuiCommunicate Translators, you have the assurance of the highest-level translation on a cultural level. A language “resonates” with native speakers following very complex rules.
The same word in English or in French might carry a different connotation because of history, trends or tradition. It takes an insider to the culture of those languages to be able to feel how the words sound.
We are able to offer reliable translations in challenging fields such as poetry, prose, audiovisual, literature and marketing.
We are able to “feel” the original text in English and know how it should sound in French and vice-versa.
In our translation work, you get over 40 years of bilingual culture. The slightest nuance of French and English is known to us culturally and linguistically.
We have just 2 languages of expertise and we keep it at that.
English to French and French to English.
Our Fields of Expertise
Literature
Whether for a children’s story or stream-of-consciousness poetry, we make sure the tone is respected and matched in the target language.
We always consider that you know your text better than anyone. You know the intention behind it and the audience you are targeting. We listen to you with care.
When we’ve read the text we will give you a first impression as readers and explain to you where we’ll take it in either English or French. We then agree on a timeline and price and we start.
Along the way, we will consult with you if there are any decisions to be made regarding a specific term.
We will explain to you how it reads in French (or English) in the event we had to make choices due to the challenges from one language to another.
For longer pieces of work, we can set milestones such as chapters or numbers of pages.
The translation will be delivered in the format of your choice (word, PDF, SRT, ASS…)
How we charge
Rates vary according to complexity and the creativity required. For straightforward factual texts such as users manuals, children’s stories, descriptive texts, cooking recipes or contemporary films we’ll charge by the word.
For poetry, brand presentations, marketing slogans, websites, and complex novels there may be more research involved such as looking up historical vocabulary or the act of weighing the word before we get close to the original.
Send us an email with a description of your project and we will get back to you with a quote.
The final price might be in the form of a flat rate, by the word or project-based. It is influenced by levels of complexity.
Language has levels of depth that goes further than a simple transfer of one word to another. The impact of some words mut be carefully weighed.
How complexity is measured
Press Releases
A press release has a low degree of complexity due to its informative and factual nature.
Sitcoms
Often packed with cultural references and a pun every 2 lines, it will require considerable work to find a French equivalent!
Historical Novels
A novel by DH Lawrence has many descriptions of landscapes and atmospheres which makes it very complex.
Tourism
A travel brochure has low complexity. It is a combination of factual information and charm to encourage discovery.
Slogans
While not complex, slogans require much creativity and an understanding of the target customer’s culture.
Products
Depending on the level of specialization, product descriptions are considered low complexity and mainly factual.
User's manuals
User’s manuals require precision and correct information packaging. Complexity will depend on the product.
Websites
A website’s purpose is to inform and highlight certain qualities. Low to medium complexity.
Legal
Legal documents are extremely complex and time-consuming. A job for a qualified expert in all cases.
